Dooars

Dooars is known as the gateway of Bhutan and it is the perfect destination for the wildlife lovers. The name 'Dooars' is derived from the word 'doors' or ‘Dwar’ as the region has 18 passages or gateways connecting India and Bhutan. The national parks and wildlife sanctuaries are the main highlights of the Dooars region that attracts the attention of the entire tourist. Attractions of Dooars

Gorumara National Park

Gorumara National Park is one of the favourite destinations of the tourist at Dooars region which covers the total area of about 80 sq. km. This national park is famous for the huge population of Indian Rhinoceros and at first, it was declared as the wildlife sanctuary in 1949. Later, on 31st January 1994, this area got the status of Indian national park. Animals like one-horned rhinos, bison, elephant, king cobra, deer and python are some of the common animals seen at Gorumara National Park.

Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary

Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is situated near Gorumara National Park and it is where the visitors enjoy the best jungle safari at Dooars region. Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary covers the total area of 96 sq. km and it was established in 1998. The name Chapramari was derived from the combination of two words 'Chapra' and 'Mari' which means a variety of small fish and abundant respectively. It was declared as the wildlife sanctuary in 1998.

Jaldapara National Park

Jaldapara National Park is established on the banks of the Torsa River and it is located at an altitude of 61 metres above sea level. Jaldapara National Park got the status of wildlife sanctuary at first in 1941 and it is famous for the variety of flora and fauna. However, in May 2012 the area was declared as the national park for the conservation and protection of Indian-one horned rhinoceros. Other animals like Indian elephants, Indian leopard, gaur, hog deer, spotted deer and wild boars can also be seen at Jaldapara National Park.

Murti

Murti is the name of the village and river at Dooars region which has emerged as one of the major destinations to explore during the holidays. Murti River flows from the Neora Valley National Park and the splendid scenic beauty of the destination catches all the attention of the visitors.
